OMAHA, Neb. — This time when the magic happened, the Texas Longhorns were the victims.

After spending much of the last month coming from behind, the Longhorns blew a two-run ninth-inning lead Monday in Game 1 of the College World Series championship series, and LSU won 7-6 in 11 innings.

D.J. LeMahieu tied the score in the ninth with a two-run double off Austin Dicharry. Mikie Mahtook’s single in the top of the 11th off losing pitcher Brandon Workman scored the winning run.

Game 2 of the series is Tuesday night. It will be interesting to see what UT does with its pitching staff, because scheduled Game 2 starter Taylor Jungmann came on in relief Monday, throwing six consecutive balls in the ninth before being pulled. The only other realistic starting option is Cole Green, who threw more than 100 pitches on Friday and would be working on three days’ rest.
